The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will work together on common issues concerning the people as they have been doing for sometime now, said Prakash Karat, CPI (M) general secretary, here on Friday.
He, however, refused to comment on a possible alliance between the two parties for the forthcoming general elections. “I talked about the current political situation,” Mr.Karat said after his meeting with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at the Secretariat here on Friday.
Talking to presspersons, Mr.Karat said CPI (M) had been working with the AIADMK in Parliament also on many issues. “I discussed the Food Security Bill … we hope we will work together.”
Noting he met Ms.Jayalalithaa after nearly two years, Mr.Karat said he exchanged views about the critical situation of the country since both parties had been taking a common position on many of the policies of the UPA government. “I discussed some of these matters with her and also expressed the hope that we continue to share and continue to work together,” he said.
On whether the multiple crises facing the country, particularly those pertaining to economy, rupee and border issues, would result in early Lok Sabha polls, he said the “UPA government has mismanaged the economy and its policies have led to the present economic crisis.” But, elections were likely only next year. “I do not think the government plans to hold early elections,” he said.
