The district on Friday witnessed demonstrations and road blocks at 13 places condemning the murder of a CPI (M) functionary in Tiruvarur.
The Tiruvarur district secretary of the CPI (M)-affiliated Tamizhaga Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam (TVTS), J.Navalan, was hacked to death on Wednesday.
Road blocks were organised by members of the CPI (M) at Keezhvelur and Velankani, and demonstrations were held at Sikkal, Keezhvelur bazaar, Alangudi in Thalainayar, Porayar in Thirukadyur, Melapidaaai in Keezhayur, Vaimedu, Maruthur in Thanikottagam, Kothankudi in Valivalam, Aakkur Mukootu in Semmanarkoil, and Kariapattinam.
V.Marimuthu, MLA, led the protest demonstrations at Keezhvelur bazaar. Over 490 cadres participated in the demonstrations, and 185 took part in the road blocks. The TVTS has proposed to organise similar demonstrations on Saturday.
