Voters have understood why she is abstaining from attacking Modi, says D. Pandian
Communist Party of India’s State secretary D. Pandian on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s motive was to secure votes for her party and transfer them, en masse, in favour of BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi after the polls.
“It is the duty of Tamil Nadu people to defeat the designs of Ms. Jayalalithaa,” he said when asked about her campaigning that the votes polled for other parties would serve no purpose.
Releasing the party’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Pandian said the voters had understood well why Ms. Jayalalithaa was abstaining from attacking the BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
To a query on India’s abstention on voting in the UNHRC against Sri Lanka, he said the UPA was afraid that if a probe was conducted, its role in conniving with the Sri Lankan government against Tamils would be exposed. Mr Pandian said former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri, who was expelled from the DMK, was a force in Tamil Nadu and could damage the prospects of the DMK candidates in many areas.
The manifesto of the party vowed to remove the hurdles to implement the Sethusamudram project and take steps to inter-link the rivers in the country and in Tamil Nadu. The party will appoint a judicial commission to fix rental for those who were living on temple lands and properties. Reiterating that a referendum was necessary to ascertain the requirements of Sri Lankan Tamils, the manifesto said only a Left-democratic government could protect the interests of Tamils.
