Court asks SP to provide security to Ramadoss, son

The Madras High Court on Friday ordered that it is the duty of the Superintendent of Police concerned to assess the situation and provide adequate protection to PMK leaders S. Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss, during their tours.

Justice K.K. Sasidharan passed the interim order on an application in a writ petition by PMK president G.K. Mani, who challenged a communication of the State Home Secretary that the Security Review Committee at its meeting on September 19 had unanimously concluded that it was not essential to provide security to the two leaders. Police protection to the two was sought pending disposal of the writ petition. Counsel submitted that the leaders would be attending several party functions in view of the coming general elections. Hence, an interim order of police protection may be passed.

Mr. Justice Sasidharan said that since the government had agreed to provide adequate security at the local level, sufficient police personnel should be provided at the venue of the meetings to be attended by Dr. Ramadoss and Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss.

The court said the petitioner could give details of the tour programme to the SP of the district concerned.
