The fate of nearly four lakh contestants will be known as counting of votes polled in the two-phase Tamil Nadu civic polls is taken up on Friday.

Votes polled both in electronic and paper formats will be counted in 822 centres across the state, deciding the fate of many mayoral candidates including M Subramaniam (DMK) and S Duraisamy (AIADMK) in Chennai.

Polls were held for over 1.3 lakh local bodies including ten corporations such as Chennai, Madurai and Tuticorin, among others, on October 17 and 19 amid allegations of violence and irregularities on part of ruling AIADMK by Opposition parties.

State Election Commissioner S. Ayyar had reviewed the preparations at some counting centres in Chennai.
