Counselling for admission to government and private self-financing medical colleges began here on Tuesday.
The counselling started with 10 seats being allotted to toppers. Counselling is being held for 1979 seats in Govt. medical colleges and 498 private self-financing colleges.
The DME is yet to receive approval for 175 seats in govt medical colleges. These include 75 in Salem, 50 in Tiruchi and 100 for Tiruvarur Medical College. The The DME has received approval from 7 self financing colleges to fill 498 medical seats.
Of these seats 15 % will be allotted to All India quota. The govt dental college quota of 85 seats will be filled in the current phase of counseling.
For the first time, students have been called into act as volunteers to assists in the seating arrangements in the auditorium.
The 2nd phase of counselling will be held in the 2nd week of July.
