Counselling for admission into govt. arts colleges to begin next week

With the deadline for the receipt of filled-in application forms for admission into under-graduate courses in the government arts colleges coming to an end on Friday evening, the counselling is expected to commence by next week.

The Government Arts College (co-education) in Salem city, which offered ten under-graduate courses, received about 6,000 filled-in application forms till Friday evening.

Courses

Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are the most sought-after courses in the science stream and BA (English) literature and B. Com are the most sought-after courses in the arts stream.

According to R. Dhanalakshmi, principal of the college, the work of preparing the rank list is in progress and the same will be displayed for all the courses on the college premises on Monday.

The counselling for admission of students under sports quota would commence on the day, followed by counselling for science and arts courses.

The counselling would be continued for the whole of next week, Ms. Rajalakshmi said.

The Government Arts College for Women at Hasthampatti received about 3,650 applications for admission into 13 UG courses. According to Manimozhi, principal, a majority of the applications were for Maths, Commerce and English Literature.

Sports quota

Ms. Manimozhi said that counselling for the students under sports quota would be on June 1.

The counselling for science courses had been scheduled on June 2 and 3 and for Commerce and Economic courses on June 6. The counselling for History and Tamil was scheduled on June7.

The Namakkal Kavignar Ramalingam Government Arts College for Women, Namakkal, which offered 13 UG courses have received about 1,440 application forms.

The Arignar Anna Government Arts College, Vada Sennimalai, Attur, received more than 900 applications and it offered ten UG courses.

The Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College at Rasipuram, which offered ten UG courses and the Arignar Anna Government Arts College for Men, Namakkal, which offered 13 courses, have also received applications from a large number of rural students.
