Councillors allege official apathy

July 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:23 am IST - Tirupur:

Residents of Ward 12, along with Ward councillor S. Ravichandran of CPI, staged a dharna at the Corporation office on Thursday alleging official apathy to their grievances pertaining to basic infrastructure in various localities.

Works

Mr. Ravichandran said that works on setting up drains at two places in the ward were yet to start despite the tendering process was completed almost a year ago.

Similarly, most parts of the ward were getting drinking water only once in a week, he added.

The residents also complained that the construction of overhead water tank at Chamundipuram was not getting completed for long.

Drinking water

“Unless the drinking water issue is solved, living in the ward becomes miserable,” they pointed out.

In another incident, A. Subramaniam of DMK, Ward 32 councillor, staged protest in the city.

Irregularities

He accused the Corporation administration of irregularities in the recruitment process under way for posting new sanitary workers.

“Already, there has been allegations of corruption in the Wards where the Solid Waste Management project was sanctioned to private parties,” he said.
