The State government should convene an all-party meeting against Karnataka’s move to construct a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu, said Pattali Makkal Katchi president G. K. Mani on Friday

Addressing reporters here, Mr. Mani said that the meeting would demonstrate the State’s solidarity against the proposal of Karnataka. He reiterated that former Union Minister and Dharmapuri MP Anbumani Ramadoss would be the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the 2016 Assembly election, as he was acceptable to all.

The Kothari Commission had recommended that the government should allocate 6 per cent of the total revenue for education. But it was a cause for concern that scholarships valued at Rs. 150 crore had not been distributed for SC/ST students for the last four years. The Samacheer Kalvi system should be upgraded to be on a par with CBSE pattern of education.

The government, he said, should take quick measures to disburse pending amount to the windmill owners for power purchased. Though the prices of tyres had increased manifold, the procurement price of rubber had not increased, he said and wanted the Union government to take immediate steps to start a Rubber Park.
