Hundreds of people from Nallampatti thronged the Collectorate here on Monday, demanding effective measures to control pig menace and action against pig rearers.

They said if action was not taken against pig rearers, it would result in a clash between two sections of the people in the village.

They alleged that pig rearers had illegally occupied two or three houses at Samathuvapuram and converted the backyard of these houses into pig sty.

The pigs were roaming in large numbers, damaging standing crops and destroying cattle feed stocked in farmhouses.

Health officials did not take any action against pig rearers or control pig menace, they added.

“We had given petitions to the Superintendent of Police and the Collector on November 10 and 18, 2014, in this connection. But no action was initiated to prevent pig menace,” said K. Muthuraj, village head.
