The Corporation has once against extended the contract period for the private person to run the Anna Park on Omalur Main Road by one more year.

The park is owned by the Corporation and operated and maintained by a private person in the past years. It is the only leisure spot and hangout for city residents as people throng in large numbers during weekends and during festival season. After bidding, the park was leased out to a private person from 2013-14 for Rs. 64.50 lakh per year.

During 2014-15, the Corporation raised the lease amount to Rs. 67,72,500 and allowed the person to operate the park.

The contract period was to end on September 30, 2015. The individual agreed to increase the lease amount by five per cent to Rs. 71,11,125 and the Corporation also permitted him to continue for 2015-16. In 2013, the Corporation hiked the entrance fee for children and adults and also for the games inside the park.

Visitors to the park have been demanding improvement in basic amenities, including toilet and drinking water facilities inside the premises. They said that it was the only place in the city with amusement rides. They urged the Corporation to improve the facilities for the benefit of the visitors.
