Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thangkabalu has urged the State government not to go on appeal against the judgment of the Madras High Court on Samcheer Kalvi (uniform syllabus) and implement it without delay.

In a statement here, he said that the scheme, which was introduced by the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government and dropped by the present All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime, had been upheld by the High court. “This decision offers a ray of hope to the youth.” He contended that the scheme was not introduced by the previous government in a hurry. Only after a lot of discussions involving eminent educationists, experts, and social activists, it was accepted. In every subject, textbooks were prepared by experts and the details were put on the Net. Only after these were welcomed by the public, it was introduced. The Congress leader said that former Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi had submitted that if his writings in the text books were found to be “objectionable”, they could be removed and the syllabus implemented.
