A group of Congress functionaries staged dharna in front of the Corporation’s administrative building on Friday demanding the returning of removed flag masts, which had been installed in front of the party office at Kokkirakulam.

The protesting Congress functionaries said a team of officials, led by Assistant Commissioner of Thatchanallur Zone of Tirunelveli Corpoation, Subbulakshmi, removed two flag masts, which had been installed in front of the party office and covered the statues of Kamaraj and Indra Gandhi, also standing in front of the party office. They alleged that the visiting officials also took party’s flags tied in front of the office. “If the seized materials are not returned, our protest will continue,” said Kamaraj, general secretary of the party.

The protest was withdrawn after the officials promised to return them the removed flag masts and the flags.
