Concern over decline in Hindu population

Expressing concern over ‘the decline in the rate of growth of Hindu population’ according to the 2011-Population by religious communities of census, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary H. Raja called upon Hindu organisations to launch a ‘Hindu resurgence movement’ to arrest the trend.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the census data showing that the rate of growth of Hindu population was only 16.76 per cent compared to Muslims’ 24.60 per cent and the total Hindu population had fallen below 80 per cent for the first time. “If the trend continued, Hindus will become minorities in India by 2115,” he said, This had happened in Kerala, he said adding the Hindu population in the state dwindled from 69 per cent in 1911 to 48 per cent in 2011.
