Test tracks, aided by computers, are to be set up on the premises of 14 regional transport offices (RTOs) in the State and a sum of Rs. 10 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose.
When those applying for driving licences participate in the test, their performance will be captured through cameras and examined later, says an official at the office of Commissioner of Transport.
It is for this purpose that computers will be used. This is why these tracks are going to be called in official parlance “computerised test tracks.”
Such tracks will be laid at the RTOs of Tiruvannamalai, Namakkal (north), Cuddalore, Salem (west), Dindigul, Tiruchi (west), Karur, Erode, Madurai (north), Virudhunagar, Coimbatore (central), Tirunelveli, Krishnagiri and Sankagiri. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has sanctioned Rs. 10 crore.
The programme would cover 42 tracks and the rest would be covered in due course, an official release stated.
