Senior Congress leader and Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has described as notorious litigator, S.K. Srivatsava, the Income Tax officer, who had lodged a complaint against Congress nominee Karti. P.Chidambaram with the Returning Officer, Sivaganga Lok sabha constituency.
Mr. Srivatsava, a resident of New Delhi, had filed a complaint before the Returning Officer V. Rajaraman on Monday, alleging that Mr. Karti had filed a false affidavit with regard to his assets and sought to reject his nomination papers.
Reacting to this, the Finance Minister, in a statement here on Tuesday, said “Mr Srivatsava has filed a baseless and false representation against the Congress candidate before the Returning Officer.
“He (Mr Srivatsava) is a notorious litigator. He is facing disciplinary proceedings in the Income Tax Department. He is also facing number of court cases.
“An application was filed by him on the same allegations before the special judge (CBI court), Patiala House court, New Delhi.
“The court dismissed the application on December 3, 2011, as frivolous and mischievous and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him,” Mr Chidambaram said.
The Finance Minister said he understood that Mr. Srivatsava had also been convicted for contempt of court by the Delhi High Court and a warrant for his arrest had been issued. However, a special leave petition was pending before the Supreme Court, he said.
