Legal heirs of those who die on account of snake bite or drowning or building collapse will get a minimum of Rs.50,000 hereafter.

Hitherto, the amount granted under the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (TNPRF) was Rs. 15,000 .

The government has also hiked the annual income eligibility for seeking relief under the Fund. Till now, the ceiling was Rs. 24,000. This has been increased to Rs. 48,000.

An official clarifies that the revision in the figures of compensation and income eligibility is applicable to routine cases. However, depending upon the seriousness of cases, the government has the discretion not to go by the norms. Instead, it can give higher compensation to dependents of such victims, irrespective of the income limit, the official adds.
