An official committee has been set up to go into the issue of rationalisation of 191 Employees State Insurance (ESI) dispensaries in the State.
This was decided at a meeting of the Regional Board of the ESI Coporation. T.M. Anbarasan, Labour Minister, chaired the meeting.
According to T. Prabhakara Rao, Principal Secretary (Labour and Employment), the committee was expected to give its findings in a month. He gave the example of Sriperumpudur where the need for such dispensaries had now arisen.
Another decision was that the officials had been directed to activate the hospital development committee, which had the powers to sanction up to Rs. 2 lakh for maintenance works.
Mr Anbarasan distributed assistance under the Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana to those who were rendered jobless on account of closure of factories.
