Nanjil Sampath and V. Pugazhendhi, loyalists of dissident AIADMK leader and R.K. Nagar MLA T.T.V. Dhinakaran, have dubbed as an eyewash the Arumughaswamy Commission constituted by the State government to probe the circumstances leading to the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, since it had not summoned Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.

Scoffing at the style of functioning of the Tamil Nadu government, Mr. Sampath and Mr. Pugazhendhi said that when most of the Ministers had come out with statements in the wake of Jayalalithaa’s death, Mr. Panneerselvam, who was the Chief Minister back then, and Mr. Palaniswami, should also be summoned for their views.

The two factions headed by Mr. Palaniswami and Mr. Panneerselvam are equivalent to “a sinking ship” and both of them would mutually eliminate themselves from the political horizon, Mr. Sampath claimed.

Referring to the steep hike in bus fare, Mr. Sampath said that the government had miserably failed in formulating a strategy to make the transport sector profitable.

Meanwhile, the ruling AIADMK on Monday expelled 280 functionaries in Ramanathapuram and Tiruvannamalai districts from the primary membership of the party, on the grounds that they had engaged in anti-party activities and had brought the party into disrepute. The expulsions are part of the AIADMK’s continuing crackdown on supporters of Mr. Dhinakaran.
