Preparation of ‘pongal,’ students’ interaction with farmers and variety of folk events marked the ‘pongal celebrations’ organised at the aesthetically-decorated St. Xavier’s College premises here on Tuesday.

With rangoli and palm leaf decorations, the entire college premises wore a festive look for the celebrations on Tuesday morning. The festivities were upbeat with a group of girl students preparing ‘pongal.’

And, the momentum was sustained till the end of the programme as the students presented variety entertainment programmes, listened to gripping poems on ‘Thamizhar Thiruvizhaa’ and interacted with farmers.

Professor M.A. Abdul Samadh of Haji Karuththa Rowthar College in Madurai, the chief guest, delivered the ‘pongal festival’ message. With their folk dances and ‘silambam,’ the students added more colour to the celebration, in which Principal Rev. Fr. Gilburt Camillus SJ, secretary Rev. Fr. Jesu Michaeldoss SJ and Rector Rev. Fr. Danis Ponniah SJ participated.
