TIRUCHI:TAMILNADU:16/04/2015: A student of National College receiving prize from T.S. Krishnamurthy,
former Chief Election Commissioner of India, in Tiruchi.

Self-discipline is the foremost quality that students should acquire, observed T.S. Krishnamurthy, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, while speaking at the 96{+t}{+h}College Day of National College. Stressing that learning was an endless process, he urged students not to be satisfied with their educational degrees. Referring to the Prime Minister’s Swacch Bharath campaign, he said students should pay attention to sanitation and it was a social responsibility. K. Raghunathan, secretary of the college, traced the history of the college and listed out its achievements. R. Srinivasan, Principal (in-charge), presented the annual report for the academic year 2014-15. V. Chakrapani, vice-president, was present.

Graduation Day

R.T. Maniraj of Darani Clinic exhorted graduates to dedicate themselves to serve the society in his Graduation Day address at Christhu Raj College. He gave away degree certificates and M. Usha Maniraj of Darani Clinic gave away medals to university rank holders. A. Arunchalam, chairman of the college, and M.J.I, Raj, Principal, were present.

Sports Day

The 42{+n}{+d}Sports Day of Government Arts College, Thiruverumbur, was held recently. J. Manjula, Principal, presided.

A. Palanisamy, Associate Professor and sports secretary, Bharathidasan University, was the chief guest. David Livingstone, Physical Director (in-charge), highlighted the achievements of the students. 

Annual Day

M. Somaskandamoorthy, former Assistant Director, All India Radio, presided over the Annual Day and Sports Day of Arulmurugan Polytechnic College, Karur. V. Chandrasekaran, founder, was present.

P.V. Kandasamy, Principal, presented the annual report and S. Murugesan, Physical Education Director, presented the annual sports report. Prizes were given to academic and sports achievers.

Research Week

S. Raghavan, Professor, Electronics and Communication Department, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, was the resource person at the Research Week, organised by the Gujarat Technical University. He conducted a workshop on ‘Microwave Integrated Circuit Design.’ Sankaranarayanaswamy and Nickolas, Professors from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, were invited for Mechanical and Computer Science stream respectively.

Workshop

A workshop on personality development was conducted at Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur.

K. Ramaswamy, Dean, stressed the importance of life skills for a holistic development of students.

Olivannan, Director, School of Life Skills and CEO of Emerald Publishers, said students should get adequate exposure and acquire skills required for a successful career, be it research, employment or entrepreneurship. 

Nagendra Babu and Abu Thahil, trainers from School of Life Sciences, oriented the students to team playing, communication, decision making, problem solving, social and employability skills.

V. Ravikumar, Professor, Soil and Water Management, gave an account of the rags-to-riches stories of achievers.

Lecture

Delivering a lecture on ‘From Plato to Post-modernism,’ organised on behalf of English Literary Association by the Department of English of AVC College, Mayiladuthurai, Dr. Noel Joseph Iruthayaraj, former professor and head, Department of English, Bharathidasan University, advised the students to cultivate a passion for language and reading.

Best Student Award

K.M. Succendran, Head, Regional Resource Management Group and Foreign Deputations and Facilitation Unit, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Chennai, presented the TCS Best Student Award to R.V.N.N.Trilochan, final-year B.Tech. student, Mechanical Engineering, of the SASTRA University, Thanjavur recently.

The award consists of a gold medal, certificate and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

Mr. Suceendran said the TCS had selected 100 best institutions including the SASTRA University for presenting the TCS Best Student Award. He said real world problems were multidisciplinary and advised students to enlarge their knowledge by doing projects in mobile computing, cloud computing, big data analytics, social media and Internet, among other things. V. Badrinath, Director, Training and Placement, SASTRA, recalled special relation between the SASTRA University and the TCS.
