March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - ERODE:

The district administration has cautioned owners of printing, tanning, dyeing and bleaching industries against letting untreated effluents into water bodies.

At a meeting with owners of the industrial units on Monday, Collector S. Prabakar instructed them to desist from letting untreated effluents during night hours, with a warning that detection would lead to cancellation of industrial licence.

The meeting was convened in the wake of complaints that pollution level in Sunnambu Odai had gone up due to the presence of polluting units at Maravapalayam, Gangapuram, Konganpalayam, P. Thaneerpanthalpalayam, R.N. Puthur and Sunnambu Odai. The pollution level was being monitored constantly, the Collector said and added that a 24-hour helpline (Ph. 0424-2260211) was being operated at the Collectorate to respond immediately to the public complaints through the Pollution Control Board.
