Collector inspects works in dams

Kanniyakumari Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan conducted a day-long inspection of works in major waterbodies such as Pechiparai, Perunchani, Chitrar I and II on Thursday.

Mr. Chavan inspected Sappathu Bridge being constructed under Kuzhithurai River Development Programme at an estimated cost of Rs. 6.35 crore and instructed the officials to complete the construction work as early as possible.

Later, he inspected development works in progress in Chitrar I and II and Perunchani dams.

Later speaking to reporters, Mr. Chavan said that the district had so far recorded a rainfall of 220 mm, as a result of which water in dams had increased considerably. Public Works Department officials were instructed to monitor the situation round the clock.

Water level in the dams on Friday is (full height in brackets): Pechiparai 38.90 feet (48), Perunchani 72.45 ft (77), Chitrar I 13.51 ft (18), Chitrar II 13.61 ft (18).
