The District Consultative Committee meeting for the bankers in Karur district was conducted here on Tuesday with the district Collector J. Uma Maheswari calling upon the bankers to help meet targets for the current quarter in the social development schemes being implemented by the governments.
She pointed out that a total of 605 women self help groups have been sanctioned revolving fund of Rs. 3.63 crore and another 58 SHGs have been granted Rs. 2.51 crore for economic activity under the Swarna Jayanthi Gram Swarozgar Yojana during the current year. Under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme a total of 41 beneficiaries have been sanctioned Rs. 2.81 crore while another 26 loan applications worth Rs. 1.62 crore were being processed under the SJSRY channel, she said. The Municipalities were forwarding the applications to the respective branches in that regard.
So far 1,847 women self help groups have been granted Rs. 25 crore against the target of Rs. 55 crore as housing loan under the Indira Awas Yojana, Kalaignar Veetu Vasathi Thittam among others, Dr. Uma Maheswari said. The applications were being processed as per the norms of the banks, she added.
She urged the bankers to bring all notified crops under the crop insurance scheme without fail and directed the Block Development Officers and voluntary organisations to assist the banks in recovery of dues from the SHGs.
