In a two-hour operation, a Coast Guard team rescued a fisherman who was seriously injured after his boat capsized in the rough sea off the Karaikal coast.

According to sources, Coast Guard ship Rani Durgavati sighted two Indian fishing boats that had capsized 10 nautical miles off the Karaikal coast and a few fishermen stranded in the sea on Friday evening.

Help sought

The fishing boat, registered in Cuddalore, requested help from the Coast Guard and also medical assistance.

A team of divers and personnel from the medical team were sent.

One of the fisherman had suffered a 3-cm deep cut and multiple wounds on the scalp.

The medical team suspected that he had suffered a fracture on both femur bones.

The injured fishermen, along with two crew members, were taken on board the ship in rough weather conditions. The other two fishermen were rescued by another fishing boat that accompanied the capsized boats.

First aid given

The injured fisherman, Vimal Shekhar from Cuddalore, was provided with first aid. Soon, the ship reached the Karaikal harbour and the injured man was admitted to the government hospital there.
