The State government will definitely implement the Athikadavu-Avinashi drinking water scheme, said Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, adding that the project would be taken up in a way that meets the farmers’ expectations.

Addressing reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on Tuesday, he said that his government would fulfil the promise made by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa — an assurance echoed during his meeting with a women’s delegation of the Athikadavu-Avinashi struggle committee.

The State government had also underscored the need to implement this project to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Coimbatore. Experts had suggested two ways of implementing the scheme, the feasibility of which is being discussed by officials, he said.
