Kailash Chandra Purohit, 58, Director, Projects, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), has been elevated as Chairman and Managing Director of NPCIL.
His predecessor Shreyans Kumar Jain retired from service recently to become Chairman of the Governing Board of World Association of Nuclear Operators - Tokyo Centre (WANO-TC), Japan.
At a simple function organised at the NPCIL headquarters in Mumbai, Mr. Purohit took charge as CMD in the presence of Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, R.K. Sinha, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Sekhar Basu, and others.
Born in Nagaur district of Rajasthan on May 10, 1954, Mr. Purohit had his early education in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from HBTI, Kanpur in 1973.
He joined Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and was posted to Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS).
Kudankulam stint
He was elevated as Officiating Station Director in 2002 for two units of VVER type reactors being constructed with Russian collaboration at Kudankulam.
He was given the twin responsibilities of Station Director as well as Project Director at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project from 2005 onwards.
