CMC’s decision highlightsgravity of NEET: Stalin

Calls for promulgation of ordinance to address issue

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday said that the decision of the internationally renowned Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore to suspend admissions to its MBBS and super specialities courses explained the gravity of the situation caused by the NEET.

“It is a shame that the AIADMK government led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami remains a mute spectator. The only way out is to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET,” he said and urged the BJP government at the Centre to promulgate an ordinance for the purpose.

‘Blow to rural students’

Mr. Stalin said the CMC’s decision to halt admission had not only denied 160 seats to Tamil Nadu, but had also dealt a blow to social justice and students from rural areas. “At a time when parents are desperate to admit their children in medical colleges, Tamil Nadu losing 160 seats is a great injustice,” he said and reiterated his party’s demand for transfer of education from the concurrent list to the State list.

Recalling the argument of the CMC that NEET would not help identify students who were ready to work in rural areas, he said the Centre’s decision had pushed the CMC to take the extreme step.
