“She tries to escape blame by levelling allegations against the Centre and the previous DMK regime”
DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Friday accused Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of trying to escape the responsibility for the power crisis gripping the State by shifting the blame to the DMK and the Union Government.
“She is trying to escape blame by levelling allegations against the Centre and the previous DMK regime,” Mr. Karunanidhi told reporters when asked about Ms. Jayalalithaa’s allegation that if Tamil Nadu was witnessing a power shortage, it was because of the failure of the DMK regime to take efforts for augmenting supply.
“Tamil Nadu has plunged into darkness and Ms. Jayalalithaa, who is responsible for the current situation, has no locus standi to refer to the power crisis or issue any statement on it,” he said.
Asked about the Chief Minister’s allegation that technically the DMK did not take any steps to get electricity from the Centre or from other States and the Congress-led UPA Government was also responsible for it, he said: “Let her show some interest because she is in power.
“She promised to solve the power crisis in three months. How many months have passed? In the past the load shedding was only for two to three hours. Now, we are witnessing it for 14 to 15 hours.”
To a question whether the DMK would make a representation to the Centre seeking more electricity for Tamil Nadu, Mr. Karunanidhi said the Chief Minister had already written to the Centre and if she made a request to the Opposition, all political parties would approach the Centre through their MPs.
“Many ways to overcome the crisis”
Mr. Karunanidhi said though there were many ways to overcome the power shortage in the state, the Chief Minister was not interested in trying out those means. “She is also not keen on identifying those who have the skills to resolve the crisis.”

usually thermal power projects has to take 4 years to come in to
function.owing to technical slags are still to be resolved for metur
generation. vallur has to begin its tally till facing the same problem.as
for as the nctps project is concerned the project getting delayed owing to
the contractor's poor execution and lack of coordination.the ministers
have to visit the project site and to expedite the project by pushing the
contractor at high level
Both parties keep blaming each other, but ultimately people of TN are the sufferers!
About 3000MW power are expected from north Madras, Vallur(Chennai)
and Tuticorin and Kudankulam projects from 06/2012 onwards. But not
even a single MW power is generater. Who is responsible? These projects are not initiated after AIADMK came to rule last year. What happens to JEYAMKONDAN project? We sleep but wake up to blame others.
I read in Newspaper that the Central government was considering gifting free mobile phones to those who are below poverty line.It is said that 7000crores have been earmarked for this. It may consider giving free solar water heaters to each such household with a hand pump fill the water tank of the solar heater. This will be more useful than mobile phones. Many of them already possess mobile phones.Others may not need them. It is very important for the governement to consider the usefulness of the item they gift to the poor at tax payers cost. The vote harvesting for ruling alliance should not be the only concern.
Power shortage is common to many states. It becomes very accute when the rains fail. Just as Government insist on water harvesting, it should insist on Solar water heaters in each household. It should also make it compulsory to use Solar power for pump sets in fields and gardens. The previous government and centre just as much responsible as the present government for they are not concentrating on alternate source of power. Cash rich industrial houses must be forced instal power generators and deny supply from regular government source.Government must invest money in reasearch on converting waste materials in to power and instal such mechanism already available.
I think, DMK regime is responsible for this power crisis.
He accepts that during his regime there was a power cut for 2 hours. Why was it there? He ruled the state for a period of five years and let him enumerate the number of projects he had initiated during that period to clear even the two hours of power cuts.He is a cunning person and his comments are to be brushed aside. Every power plant in the state had working problem and no concrete action was taken during his time. Everyone of the plants with problem started malfunctioning after AIADMK came to power. The present regime is trying to set right the problem giving plants. Unfortunately for them, new problems arise in some other plant. Central Govt' is having step mptherly attitude and giving some lame excuses for not giving the required power from the surplus quantity available. The central govt' should be condemned for this.
