M.K. Stalin, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer, has faulted the State government for not making “adequate efforts” on the power front.
Addressing a meeting held in Kadayanallur near here on Saturday evening in connection with the birthday celebration of DMK president M. Karunanidhi, he said the erstwhile DMK government launched a series of power projects, including Udangudi in Tuticorin district to generate more than 7,000 megawatt power. The projects had not been followed up properly. Recalling Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s promise in 2011 immediately on assuming office that she would make Tamil Nadu free of power cuts by 2012, Mr. Stalin said people had been let down.
He also said that law and order in the State has deteriorated in the recent months. He criticised the government for the increase in prices of essential commodities, milk, bus fare and three-fold increase in electricity tariff.
Earlier, Mr. Stalin addressed members of youth wing at a meeting held in Courtallam to review the progress of party activities in the district.
Former Ministers Poongothai Aladi Aruna and K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker R. Avudaiyappan were present.
