CM congratulates Viswanathan Anand

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has congratulated world chess champion Viswanathan Anand on winning his fifth world chess title and fourth in a row.

In a statement, Ms. Jayalalithaa said: “You have brought laurels both to Tamil Nadu and India. I congratulate you on this magnificent victory.”

The Chief Minister also wished the chess grandmaster success in retaining the world title crown for many more years to come.

DMK president M. Karunanidhi and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant also congratulated Anand on his achievement.

Mr. Karunanidhi recalled that five years ago, the DMK government gave him a cash prize of Rs.25 lakh, when he won the world championship in Mexico for the second time.
