A team of health officials found banned drugs and strong antibiotics at two clinics run by quacks during raids on Friday. They seized several packs of Nimesulide tablets that were banned in the country nearly two years ago from one of the clinics.

A. Shanthi, joint director of medical and rural health services (in-charge), Vellore, along with drug inspector Devanai, police personnel and village administrative officers, conducted raids on two clinics.

They raided a clinic at Reddiyur and nabbed Shankar who has been practising medicine without qualification for four years. He claimed that he had studied Class XII.

The officials also raided the clinic run by Kannan at Kurusilapet. “Kannan, who claimed he was a B.A. degree holder, had a full-fledged practice. He had opened a lab in 2016. We found two patients at the clinic,” she said.
