Class X student sets herself ablaze

A 16-year-old girl studying class X in a government school allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at Palliandhoor near here on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Rekha, daughter of Murugan and Sivakami, part time employees in the Mundiambakkam government medical college and hospital. Police sources said that Rekha studying in a government school at Kappur did not perform well in the model exam and was reprimanded by her teacher.

In a dejected mood, the girl who went to her grandfather Masilamani’s house, in Palliandhoor, doused kerosene and set herself ablaze. She was rushed to the Villupuram government hospital and referred to Chennai after her condition deteriorated. But she died enroute. A case has been registered.
