Madras High Court on Wednesday extended by another six months the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover for the court campus here.
The order in this regard was passed by a bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M. M. Sundresh.
The court had ordered the CISF cover as a temporary arrangement in October last year on a suo motu PIL proceedings initiated after the court witnessed >unruly scenes and obstruction caused by lawyers over certain issues.
When the PIL came up for hearing on Wednesday, the bench in its order said, “We feel it appropriate to extend the CISF security for the high court premises at least for a period of another six months.” Security of the court complex was taken over by CISF personnel from the state police on November 16 last year.
The court had taken up the issue after lawyers created a ruckus while agitating for declaration of Tamil as official language of the court and over contempt of court proceedings against two Madurai-based Bar association leaders.
It had overruled objections by the Tamil Nadu Government on handing over security to the CISF or any agency other than state police.
