Scores of devotees thronged the Sankararameshwarar Temple, also called Sivan Temple, here on Saturday, in view of the temple car procession organised as part of the Chithirai festival.

Special prayers were offered to the deities. Braving the scorching sun, a large number of people took part in the festival and pulled the temple cars.

The 10-day Chithirai festival commenced with the flag hoisting on April 23.

The car procession, which commenced at 10.30 a.m., covered the Car Streets. Artistes performed a variety of folk dances during the procession.

Tourism Minister S.P. Shanmuganathan and officials of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department took part.

Adequate police force had been deployed in the vicinity of the temple, and traffic had been regulated.
