Girl students staying in a children’s home are being subjected to sexual harassment by its administrators, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) alleged in a complaint to the District Collector C.N. Maheshwaran on Thursday.

Ms. James Anjela Mary met the collector and handed over the complaint along with a handwritten letter allegedly written by a girl and video recordings on the alleged sexual harassment meted out to the girl students at the home.

In her letter to the Collector Ms. Anjela alleged that about 25 children below the age of 14 including 10 girls were staying at the Annai Sandhiya Home for Deserted Children near Government High School, Mookandapalli under the Hosur Municipal area.

The couple -- Mr. Theagarajan and Venkatalakshmi -- who are are running the home and their son were harassing the girl children studying from fourth standard to ninth standard.

A girl studying in ninth standard wrote a handwritten letter to the collector stating the harassment meted out to her by the couple and their son in detail, and appealed to rescue her and other children at the home.

Soon after receiving the petition, the Collector directed Ms. Ramya Bharathi, Assistant Superintendent of Police to take appropriate action in this regard.

Ms. Anjela Mary met the ASP along with other office bearers of AIDWA on Thursday and handed over the letter countersigned by the collector.

Immediately, the police swung into action and rescued the children from Annai Sandhiya Home for Deserted Children and handed over to Narandra Home at Hosur.

In the meantime, Ms. Anjela Mary told The Hindu on Friday that instead of putting the rescued children at another home will not help for the development of the students. It will be of great help if the district administration takes steps to admit the children at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) School run by the Sarva Siskha Abiyan of the Education Department. As it will be a proper measure for the further development of the children and their future.

The AIDWA took a decision to hold a demonstration before the office of the Village Administrative Officer at Mookandapalli on Tuesday (January 10) demanding action against the administrators of the Annai Sandhiya Home for Deserted Children and also urging continuous monitoring unrecognized Children’s Homes wherever girl children are living in large numbers.

Sankari, State Vice President, AIDWA and Mr. P. Dillibabu, Harur M.L.A. will participate in the demonstration, Ms. Mary adds.
