Child marriage stopped

The marriage between a minor girl and a 20-year-old boy that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday was stopped by the timely intervention of the officials here.

Childline 1098 received information that a marriage was to be conducted for a minor girl in Tiruchengode.

A team comprising Village Administrative Officer Periyasamy, Special Sub-Inspector Tamilselvi from District Anti-Human Trafficking Wing,

A. Rajalakshmi

and G. Ramalakshmi

from Childline, officials from District Child Protection Unit and Social Welfare Department visited the girl’s house on

Tuesday night.

The girl was pursing her Class VIII and her parents, both labourers,

arranged marriage for the girl with a 20-year-old boy, also a labourer, of

the same village.

The law was

explained and written statement

was obtained from the girl’s parents.

Since examination is in progress, the girl

was asked to be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) next week.
