Child handed over to convent

Collector S. Suresh Kumar handed over a one-week-old female child, found abandoned at the Vriddhachalam bus stand recently, to the representatives from the Holy Apostle Convent at St. Thomas Mount in Kancheepuram district on Thursday.

The Collector has christened the child as Jansi Rani. Special Sub-Inspector Anbalagan and fellow policemen attached to the Vriddhachalam police station, who found the baby, made arrangements for admitting the child in the intensive care unit of the government hospital there.

Later, the child was handed over to the Social Welfare Department to be taken care of under the Cradle Baby scheme. Social Welfare Officer R. Bhuvaneswari was present on the occasion. — Special Correspondent
