House site pattas for 221 acres in Sholinganallur near here, worth Rs. 1,577 crore, have been distributed to 5,229 beneficiaries.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa formally launched the distribution of pattas on Friday. The extent of land came under the Natham land tax scheme. It was on completion of survey work in seven villages of the Sholinganallur taluk in Kancheepuram district that the distribution had been made, according to an official release.

The Chief Minister also kick-started several other projects, worth around Rs. 24 crore, and laid the foundation stone, through video-conferencing, for Rs.103.4-crore integrated complex in Tirupur.

She inaugurated the taluks of Kalasapakkam (in Tiruvannamalai district), Kolli Hills (Namakkal); Chinnasalem (Villupuram) and Tirubuvanam (Sivaganga). She also opened Rs.2.03-crore building to house the taluk office of Agastheeswaram in Kanyakumari district.

One hundred and twenty four jeeps, costing around Rs. 7 crore, were presented by her to officials of the Revenue Department.

The Chief Minister also declared open a building on the campus of Anna Institute of Management on P.S. Kumaraswamy Raja Salai to accommodate the All India Civil Services Coaching Centre. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 10.14 crore, the building had, among others, 76 rooms for lodging; rooms for differently-abled and a library.

Ms. Jayalalithaa, on Friday handed over regularisation letters to 222 persons who had completed 10 years service on a daily-wage basis in the Public Works Department. They included 159 irrigation assistants. The regularisation would mean an expenditure of Rs.3.26 crore per year to the government, according to another release.
