Chief Minister criticised for defending Raja

February 06, 2011 11:06 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 03:50 am IST - Tuticorin:

The interim budget presented by the government would not benefit farmers and micro small and medium entrepreneurs, according to G. Ramakrishnan, State secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Speaking to reporters here, he criticised Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for defending former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with the 2G spectrum scam. All those involved in the scam should be charge sheeted, he said.

Stating that the law and order in the State had deteriorated, Mr. Ramakrishnan said the government had failed on all fronts and the corruption was rampant.

The CPI (M) would ally with AIADMK in the Assembly election to defeat the DMK. It was decided during the State-level party meeting chaired by Prakash Karat, general secretary, in Chennai on January 24 and 25.

He also expressed hope that DMDK led by Vijayakant would join the AIADMK-led combine soon.

Earlier, Mr. Ramakrishnan urged the need for conserving natural resources including water bodies. The CPI (M) would welcome industrialisation but it should not pollute the environment, he added.
