Hard work pays off: Students celebrate at a school in Perambur on Saturday after the CBSE Class XII examination results were announced.

The board exam results for students of Class 12 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools were announced on Saturday.

The Chennai region, which includes Tamil Nadu, has the second-highest pass percent of 93.87% in the country.

Apart from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Daman and Diu are also included in the region.

Across the country, 12,737 students scored above 95% marks and 72,599 students scored above 90%.

A few heads of schools pointed out that there had been a noticeable dip in the performance of students in mathematics. Minoo Aggarwal, principal of DAV Public School, Velachery, said that while the overall performance of the students was good, a few students had found the maths paper challenging.

Students of the science group said they had found the physics paper more challenging than the previous years. “The paper was lengthy as well. We usually have a lot of numericals but, this time, the questions were subjective and there were a lot of diagrams as well,” said Siddharth Srinivasan, a student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, who has scored 492 out of 500. Students of the commerce stream had to take up the economics paper again, a month after their board exam owing to a question paper leak. “This, however, has not had any bearing on the results, and our students have done well in the paper,” said Padmini Sriram, principal of the Hindu Senior Secondary School.

Post-result counselling

The CBSE said the post-results counselling that the board offers for students will begin on Saturday and go on till June 9 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all days.

There will be 69 expert volunteers including principals, trained counsellors and special educators to help the students. To access counsellors, students or parents can call 1800 11 8004.
