Chennai Mahila Court rejects Godman’s petition

November 22, 2013 11:15 am | Updated 11:15 am IST - CHENNAI:

A Mahila Court in Chennai on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Prasanna Venkatacharya Sadurvedi, popularly known as Chaturvedi Swami, seeking to discharge him from a criminal case that he has been facing since 2005. Sadurvedi was facing the criminal case for 23 offences.

The prosecution also alleged that he committed many other crimes and extorted money, gold, silver articles and jewels. Based on a complaint given by Suresh, father of a victim, the Central Crime Branch police registered the case and arrested him. In 2005, the police filed charge sheet and cited six others as accused in the case.

Meena Satheesh, Mahila Court Judge, pointed out that the petitioner could not ask for discharge just because the case was prolonged all these years. The delay was only due to the filing of various petitions by the accused.
