Check quality of water supplied, officials told

The officials of the Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage (TWAD) Board explained the steps to be adopted for checking the quality of drinking water being supplied to the city residents during the demonstration held in the corporation premises on Wednesday.

The TWAD Board officials led by S. Sivakumar, Executive Engineer, explained the methods for checking the quality of drinking water, examining the mixing of drain water with drinking water, testing critical chemical parameters in drinking water. They also demonstrated the methods for testing the quality of the bore well water.

The TWAD Board has planned to test 150 drinking water samples taken from the over-head water tanks, public taps, water supplied by lorries, water used in domestic households etc in Salem Corporation limits in the next three days beginning Friday.

The corporation officials directed the subordinate staff involved in the supply of drinking water in the city limits to ensure the quality of water adopting proper testing methods before supplying drinking water through the over-head water tanks and surface level tanks.

A. Asokan, Corporation Commissioner in-charge and other senior officials and other subordinate staff participated in the demonstration.

The initiative of the TWAD Board was in connection with the National Rural Drinking water Health Awareness Week in progress to create awareness on water quality and water borne diseases among the masses.
