The Ramanathapuram District Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to name Madurai airport after former President APJ Abdul Kalam who died in Shillong on July 27.

In a letter to Mr. Modi, a copy of which was made available to the media here on Monday, chamber president Asmabagh Anvardeen has requested that it should be named as Abdul Kalam International Airport in memory of the great scientist. “Not only the people of Tamil Nadu but the whole country would appreciate this proposal and welcome this step. We are anxiously awaiting the Central government’s official announcement in this regard,” Mr. Anvardeen said.
