A new hall in the office of the South Chennai district unit of CPI(M) was dedicated to former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyothi Basu on his first death anniversary. CPI(M) MP T.K. Rangarajan, who inaugurated the hall, said the coming days would be more challenging to the Communists since the “governments are not tolerating trade union activities and democratic movements.”
Recalling the days Jyothi Basu and other Communists built the party organisation during the “semi-fascist” regime in West Bengal, he said continuous protests and struggles alone would shape up Communists. He also said the Communist parties never depended on the publicity from the media for their emergence in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura.
South Chennai district secretary Bheema Rao and secretariat member T.K Rajan were among those who spoke.
