A youth, who recently dragged a 52-year-old woman on the road in Arumbakkam before snatching her 15-sovereign chain, was arrested in Anna Nagar on Tuesday. The youngster was lying low after the incident but was caught when he came to buy ganja.

On Februrary 11, Menaka, a resident of Washermenpet, was walking on the road when two men followed her. One of them caught hold of her chain. She fell and was dragged for 100 m before they sped away with the chain on their bike.

CMBT police inspector K.S. Raja registered a case and tried to match the image from the CCTV footage with photos of those who were released from jail recently. “Arun Kumar’s features matched those of the suspect,” said a police officer.

Arun Kumar, 24, is a resident of Ayodhya Nagar, Triplicane. “He was arrested in a chain snatching case and released from jail in January,” added the officer.

The police are yet to nab the man who drove the bike.
