Here is an opportunity for school and college dropouts to get themselves employed in garment industry here, which currently faces shortage of skilled employees in different segments of the production chain.
The NIFT-TEA Knitwear Institute, promoted by Tirupur knitwear exporters, is all set to commence certificate courses specifically for school and college drop out youth so as to make them.
“We will be offering courses ranging from six months to one year in durations on topics like fabrics management, pattern making, quality checking (for supervisory cadre posts) and machinery operations”, NIFT-TEA Institute chief mentor Raja M. Shanmugam told The Hindu .
Mr. Shanmugam, who is also the convener of Task Force (Textiles) in Confederation of Indian Industry, added that the courses were planned in such a manner to enable the youth to straight away join the textile industry without any additional training. According to Mr. Shanmugam, the Tirupur knitwear cluster faces around 20 per cent shortage of skilled labour.
“Unless new faces are inducted at periodic levels, the business expansion plans too get affected,” he said.
The institute is also arranging special drives to enrol drop out students for the said programmes.
