The Centre, which had objected to the use of the term ‘Eelam’ in the title of a meet organised by the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) slated for Sunday, has withdrawn its objection.

Conveying the change of its decision to the TESO through a letter of August 11 (Saturday), the Coordination Division of the Ministry of External Affairs stated that “after taking into account the clarifications provided by the organisers of the Conference, the Ministry of External Affairs has No Objection to holding of the conference with the title of ‘Eelam Tamil Rights Protection Conference.’ ”

However, the Ministry advised the organisers to ensure that “the Conference does not issue any declaration or outcome that calls into question in any manner the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of any foreign country with whom India has diplomatic relations.”

The letter specifically stated that it was in suppression of the earlier communication dated August 9 (Thursday).
