The Centre, which had objected to the use of the term ‘Eelam’ in the title of a meet organised by the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) slated for Sunday, has withdrawn its objection.
Conveying the change of its decision to the TESO through a letter of August 11 (Saturday), the Coordination Division of the Ministry of External Affairs stated that “after taking into account the clarifications provided by the organisers of the Conference, the Ministry of External Affairs has No Objection to holding of the conference with the title of ‘Eelam Tamil Rights Protection Conference.’ ”
However, the Ministry advised the organisers to ensure that “the Conference does not issue any declaration or outcome that calls into question in any manner the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of any foreign country with whom India has diplomatic relations.”
The letter specifically stated that it was in suppression of the earlier communication dated August 9 (Thursday).

Alas ! a hackneyed volte face by center mostly compelled by coalition politics, in granting permission to hold the much hyped meeting at YMCA, in Chennai.Since the ball is back in the court of the octogenarian politician and satrap of the South, it remains to be seen how best it can be cashed upon.

The congress Govt at the center and Mr.Karunanidhi are confused about what to do in Ealam Tamils issue. The word Ealam is in sangam literature. How can anybody object to use of a Tamil word by Tamils? By organizing a TESO conference Karunanidhi has become a laughing stock among the Tamils.
Height of non-sense. Centre was never as weak as it is today. This UPA govt is compromising on every issue based on its electoral interests. Nothing is wrong and nothing is right. It is beginning of end of India.
it is strange that GOVT,. of india can not stick to its dictum, and withdraw the directive within hrs,!
