The State unit of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has adopted a resolution urging the Centre to allot the entire quantum of power generated by the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project to Tamil Nadu initially.
At the end of the unit’s executive committee meeting at Sathyamurti Bhavan on Monday, its president M. Yuvaraj told reporters that fuel was being loaded into the Kudankulam units one and two. As Tamil Nadu was reeling under a power crisis for years, the power produced by these plants was essential for the State to tide over the situation. Protestors who were spreading misinformation should be immediately arrested.
As the power situation had turned worse with load-shedding going up to 13 hours a day, he said the government had failed to keep its promises of restoring normal supply within a year.
Youth Congress members would stage demonstrations in all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies within a week condemning the government’s failure.
Arguing that the Centre’s permission to allow FDI in retail would benefit farmers as they need not depend on middlemen but could directly approach retailers for better pricing, Mr. Yuvaraj said the Youth Congress would distribute pamphlets throughout the State explaining the benefits of foreign investment in retail sector.
